Hello Dear Readers,
Health and Safety was finally published on September 17!
It’s been a very fun couple of weeks since then—I took The New York Times to a Paris Review party and then to some of my favorite bars in Ridgewood; I had a few readings (the one with Tony Tulathimutte where we discussed his book Rejection at the offices of n+1 was especially enjoyable because I got to do an in-person version of the review I might have written—in brief, I said that the book was as if David Foster Wallace’s Brief Interviews with Hideous Men and Patricia Lockwood’s No One Is Talking About This had a baby… or something).
The critics have been kind to Health and Safety but mostly I’m just happy the book is finally out. Of the interviews I’ve done, this one with Shawn Reynaldo’s First Floor, this one with the Los Angeles Review of Books Podcast, and this one with John’s Music Blog have been among the highlights. It has surprised me a little how much the coverage of the book has focused on nightlife—I knew ravers might be one audience for the book, but I didn’t realize they were such dedicated readers. I’m hoping the drug nerds will surface next.
I really intend this newsletter to be a lot more than book promotion, but since it’s a busy moment I just wanted to alert people to some events on the West Coast this week and next.

Tomorrow we’re having a little book party at Ruby Wine from 5-9 p.m. This isn’t a reading, just a hang—my pal Ross is going to play some records. There will be wine to drink, cheese to buy, books for sale. I know we’re competing against the Folsom Street Fair but please come, fetishwear is always welcome!
